SILICATO DE ZIRCONIO

ZIRCOSIL 5

DESCRIPTION

Zircosil 5 is a finely milled zirconium silicate produced to a closely controlled particle size, nominally - 5 microns.

TYPICAL CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

Composition: Zircosil 5

Zirconium Silicate ZrSiO4

Zirconia + Hafnia Zr02 + HfO2: 64.40%

Silica SiC2: 34.10%

Alumina Al2O3: 0.50%

Titania Ti02: 0.10%

Ferric Oxide Fe2O3: 0.07%

TYPICAL PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

Specific Gravity: 4.5

Bulk Density g.cm-3: 0.8

Average Particle Diameter Malvern d50 (um): 1.45

APPLICATIONS

Zircosil 5 is used in ceramic glazes, optical glass, heat resistant pocelain and zircon refractories. In glazes for earthenware, tiles and sanitaryware it results in high opacity, craze resistance and colour stability.

Johnson Matthey Zircon manufacturing techniques allow us to balance particle size against chemical purity to give constant opacity.

Further details of applications are available from Johnson Matthey Zircon.

HYGIENE

A material safety data sheet is available.

PACKAGES

The standard packages are a multiwalled 25 kg paper sack or a 1000 kg F I B C.

ZIRCOSIL D

DESCRIPTION

Zircosil D is a zircon flour produced by milling zircon sand to a closely controlled particle size, nominally - 300 mesh.

Zircosil D is commonly known as - 325 mesh zircon flour for frit manufacture.

TYPICAL CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Composition: Zircosil D
Zirconium Silicate (ZrSiC4)
Zirconia + Hafnia (ZrO2 + HfO2): 66.50%
Silica (SiO2): 32.50%
Alumina (Al2O3): 0.40%
Titania (TiO2): 0.12%
Ferric Oxide (Fe2O3): 0.06%

TYPICAL PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Specific Gravity: 4.6
Bulk Density (g.cm-3): 1.6
Wt. % retained on 200 mesh (75pm): 0.1
Wt. % retained on 300 mesh (53pm): 1.0
D50 Malvern (um): 10.0

APPLICATIONS

Zircosil D is used in the glass, ceramic glaze, refractory and plastics industries.

Small additions of Zircosil D improve the mechanical strength of glass and impart alkali resistance to the glass fibres
used in glass reinforced concrete.

Zircosil D is used as an opacifier for glaze frits and as a refractory wash for glost kilns.

It can be used as a fine constituent in pressed zircon refractory shapes and as a filler for epoxy resins.

Further details of applications are available from Cookson Matthey Zircon.

HYGIENE

A safety data sheet is available.

PACKAGES

The standard packages are 25kg and 50kg multiply paper sacks and 1 mt bulk bags.

PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION

The particle size distribution was determined by the Malvern Mastersizer on a sample dispersed in water.
